At Black Orbit Foundation, we believe Africa has an important role to play in the future of space exploration and the rapidly expanding global space economy. Our research focuses on identifying opportunities, examining emerging space technologies and developing evidence-based insights that can support Ghana and other African nations in building meaningful participation in the space industry.
Ghana Space Economy Readiness Initiative (GSERI)
Exploring Ghana’s Pathway into the Global Space Economy
The Ghana Space Economy Readiness Initiative is a research-led project by Black Orbit Foundation exploring how Ghana can position itself as an emerging participant in the global space economy.
The initiative examines Ghana’s readiness, opportunities and potential pathways in space policy, satellite technologies, artificial intelligence, scientific research, workforce development and international collaboration.
A key area of research is Ghana’s potential engagement with the Artemis Accords and opportunities arising from NASA’s Artemis programme, alongside other international space initiatives.
Our goal is to develop practical research insights and strategic recommendations that can inform government policy, attract investment, encourage international cooperation and help establish a sustainable foundation for Ghana’s participation in the space economy.
Our Research Priorities
- Space Policy and Governance: Examining regulatory frameworks and national policies that can support Ghana’s emerging space sector.
- Artemis and International Space Cooperation: Researching potential pathways for Ghana to engage with the Artemis Accords and international space exploration initiatives.
- Space Economy Development: Identifying commercial opportunities, investment priorities and emerging markets in the global space industry.
- Technology and Innovation: Exploring applications of satellite technology, artificial intelligence, Earth observation and space-based solutions.
- Human Capital Development: Investigating how education, research institutions and industry partnerships can prepare Ghana’s next generation of space professionals.
